Villa Mylo Ios

Enjoying panoramic views of the Aegean Sea and the neighboring island of Sikinos, Villa Mylo is a bioclimatic holiday house that blends in with the rugged landscape of Ios and takes advantage of the climate and the resources of its unique location.

Designed in collaboration with Christos Vlachos, the residence follows the curves of the ground, while its layout is conceived as a kind of unfolded “hand fan”, which allows for the creation of distinct outdoor spaces uniquely framing the horizon.

The main living space includes a lounge, a dining area, and an open-plan kitchen. When open, its floor-to-ceiling windows disappear into the walls facilitating the seamless continuity between indoors and outdoors. The concrete pergola over the patio casts sharp shades that add a man-made geometry and collide with the liquid border provided by the swimming pool. This element is also softening the roughness of the rocky landscape which also permeates our choice of materials. By favoring the use of natural stone and bush hammered concrete, the residence becomes further integrated into its unique location.

Each of the five ensuite bedrooms boasts covered terraces that enjoy lavish views over the sea and the surrounding cliffs.

The back of the house is enhanced with a corridor that enables natural ventilation all year round while offering an alternative connection between the rooms. In addition, the bedrock revealed during the excavation was left exposed in its raw form and is further showcased through the natural light that comes in from the skylights.

The striking presence of this naturally textured surface is visible from the kitchen and several of the rooms, thus adding an additional layer to the experience of living in Villa Mylo.
